We’ll also have other festive nibbles and seasonal doodads. Family and union-curious non-members also welcome. The Balloon Bar also has a ‘Midweek Markdown’ on selected drinks. It has a range of non-alcoholic hot and cold drinks and food.

2. UCU SW Black Members’ Network meeting: Thursday 5th December 2024, 16:30 – 18:30 ish.
The UCU SW Black members’ network meeting is open to all who self-identify as Black/Global Majority.
At the last meeting, it was agreed that it would be useful and important to consider responses to the rise of the far-right. At this meeting we will discuss strategies for responses at the HE/FE institution, the union, and on an individual level. Updates or actions taken since the last meeting will be given.
The meeting is 16:30 to 18:30 but may finish earlier.

3. Demilitarise Universities: Exploring the Impact of Militarisation in University Education and Solidarity with Palestine Wednesday 27th November 2024 16:00 – 18:00.
This is a University of Bristol event, exclusively for Bristol University staff and students.
This event and panel discussion will shed light on the growing militarisation within universities and its connection to the broader struggles for justice, with a special focus on the Palestinian cause. The event is supported by University of Bristol branches of UCU, UNITE and UNISON unions.
Speakers include Dr. Eldin Fahmy (Senior Lecturer, School for Policy Studies), Carmen Wilson (Director of Operations, Demilitarise Education), Dr. Chris Rossdale (Senior Lecturer in Politics & International Relations), Dr. Oscar Berglund (Bristol UCU Co-Vice President), and Faisa Mahamud (BSc Physics, 2023).
