1. Building to Win: Bristol UCU Priorities Survey 2024-25

Completing the survey means you have a voice in deciding how Bristol UCU could use UCU national expertise and resources to improve important areas of your working life at the University of Bristol.  This survey is our first consultation step. The results will help us to determine the priorities and activities for your branch in 2025, and also help us to apply for the national UCU ‘Building to Win’ project.  More info here: [LINK].

Demilitarise Education Event 27th November and Open Letter

There is a ‘Demilitarise Education’ event for University of Bristol Staff and Students on 27th November.  More details to follow.

Health and Safety Update.  Reps in action! Health and Safety Inspections

Following feedback from members, our Health and Safety Reps will be conducting inspections of 8-10 Berkeley Square on 31st October and the Arts Complex on 18th November.  Inspections are carried out to identify issues and seek action.  Heads of School and University H&S colleagues are invited to attend the inspections.

Our H&S Reps are Laura Dickinson, Jeffrey Pocock, Yin Harn Lee, Albert Sanchez Graells and Donna MacLean.  If you have any Health and Safety issues you’d like to raise, please email ucu-office@bristol.ac.uk

Why not become a Health and Safety Rep?

We need more members and existing reps to join our growing team as H&S Reps.  This role can also be specifically for tackling workload.  Find out more here:What is a Workload Rep?  

The H&S Rep role includes free training to investigate and report Health and Safety issues at the University.  Benefits include paid time off for continuing H&S training and fulfilling safety rep functions, plus 1 extra day annual leave.  Upcoming training: 

H&S Induction:  8, 14, 20, January 2025, Online. 

H&S2 Organising: 7, 13, 19, May 2025, Online.
